I thought he was sweet and kind, a good father-figure for Ayla, and I loved the comparisons between him and Ayla and between him and Ayla’s son, Dirk.

Besides the vibrant setting, the characters were detailed and intricate. I read this for the first time years ago and although there’s absolutely zero romance at all, not even a hero that comes in the next book This is truly a 5-star rated experience.

Tigress Warrior Elf Goodreads is not a site for reading books. I’m glad I stopped judging this book by its cover or my stereotypical assumption of cave people. She is much farther up the evolutionary ladder, so finds it very hard to fit into the mold they consider appropriate for women. In place of written records, she immersed herself in the exhaustive lkbro of every known aspect of the physical evidence liibro the period, and all of the various scholarly interpretations of it.

I reread this recently and decided to upgrade it to 5 stars.

Lists with This Book. I actually started reading them in the 4th or 5th grade. Lawrence said, “Trust the tale and not the teller. This cavenario didn’t go, “I’m going to write a pre-historic novel” and then just throw in some almost modern humans in a wallpaper world. I really liked this book so much that I even acquired a copy, however, after reading it the first time, I felt deceived. Return to Book Page.

At first, the others in the Clan are afraid of her blue eyes and the water she produces when she’s sad, but as the time and later the years go by she becomes integrated into their small community.

This series is like taking a step back in time and it feels like you have experienced everything that Ayla goes through right alongside her. The long descriptions never come across as dry or boring, but instead leave me with more questions.

El Clan del Oso Cavernario

This book was awesome!! Valley of the Horses is fun but lacking the depth.

Ayla is a Cro-Magnon who is adopted by a group of Neanderthal people when they find her stranded and abandoned after heavy snowfall and a great Earthquake. Men can beat women and be completely justified–this happens to Ayla quite a few times in the book. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. She is taken in by a clan of Neanderthals, less evolved than the cro-magnon, and raised to live by their methods.

I adored this book, and still do after re-reads. I said, “Oh, really? I for some reason pictured the Hollywood version of scruffy cave people with shaggy hanging furs and bones in their hair. I sobbed at the end of the book, not just because it was emotional, but I remember the sadness that I would never again be able to read this book with new eyes.

She’s way up there in my new favorite characters list and I’m excited to watch her continue to grow in the subsequent installments in this series. It brought to life a world disappeared by more than 10, years.

I also loved that Ayla was an innovative and strong woman, and I enjoyed learning about botany and medicinal uses for plants as I love these books and have read some in the Earth’s Children series many times because I love the detailed descriptions of their way of life. Needless to say, this was difficult for me to finish. As I said above, I loved the research Auel put into this ccavernario that said, inserting several passages ONLY to show what plants mixed with what roots would make a cure for this ailment got old.

I am afraid she’ll ask for book suggestions and I will suggest one with swear words in it or something. What do you imagine happened to Lbiro after Ayla left? Ayla was a great character; she grows so much throughout the book. To ask other readers questions about El Sl del Oso Cavernarioplease sign up. Her life with librro Clan isn’t easy, their traditions are very different to those she was brought up with and she finds it hard to understand why she isn’t allowed to do the things she wants to do. No this book is not perfect and perhaps it might seem a bit immature in places to some readers, but in the long run, this will turn out to be one of the books that you may end up thinking of as a classic.

Not even 10 stars is enough for this book. As a lover of the Historical Fiction genre, a book about prehistory is the ultimate. This is discussed on several occasions.
