Your synopses above no challenge, no progress, no chance are r;g, way off the mark as far as playing Everway goes. I think this disconnect is at the heart of why Everway has been tough for you.

You can also have Drama resolution in which the other players say “Yes, but” as in Polaris or in more informal ways. My impression is that Everway does this thing better than almost any other game, but if a one-driver storytelling vehicle isn’t your thing, well – not every game is for everybody.
