Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series has really hit it big. The rebellious Hadley had not been in touch with the family in years, so they did not know she had become a vampire several years ago.

She also harfis Quinn as a result of the events in this story. Bizarrely, this book of short stories made me think less of every character appearing in them. But the mysterious stranger brings a little festive magic to her night.

Books by Charlaine Harris. However, the collection was somewhat deficient in two counts, resulting the dropping of a star: It would be difficult for readers not familiar with the novels in the series to know what is really going on.

This was a great story that captured not only Sookie’s world, but what makes a short story really work. For more help see the Common Knowledge help page. I’d only read one of the stories before, unfortunately for me it was apparently the best of the bunch. Eric invites Sookie to celebrate Dracula Night at his nightclub, Fangtasia.

In “Lucky,” Sookie and Amelia, a new character in the series and a friend with a quirky talent in faiey, find themselves on a case. Insurance agent Greg Aubert asks Sookie and her witch friend Amelia to investigate a break-in at his office. Harris relies on the books for the world setting, but does fill in enough details to keep the chronology within the series correct.

Every Sookie Stackhouse short story ever written—in one special volume—from the New York Cairy bestselling author. The book characters are amused by Chalraine childlike hope that the Count will appear at his party, just like Linus of the Peanuts comic hopes in vain to greet the Great Pumpkin.

Plus, in its entirety so dull that even people who actually think Harris can write will be bored.

In the collection of five stories, I found “One Word Answer” the most interesting especially with the mention of Marie Laveau, an actual person in the history of New Orleans who also appears in Barbara Hambly’s Benjamin January series. Lucky Okay story, not sure why they thought themselves lucky though. It’s a fun story that introduces some interesting one-time I think? Dracula Night Sookie is invited to Fangtasia for a birthday party in honor of Dracula.

The stories in A Touch of Dead fall in various places throughout the Sookie novels, and are thoughtfully put in chronological order in the collection. No real information in relation to the series, but a cute story nonetheless.


Sookie shows us, once again, that she is a pretty smart, Southern cookie, and not just a psychic barmaid. Not bad, just nothing too special It seems that Greg’s spells have been using up all the hxrris in town. Only useful as backstory for the series, where Hadley becomes more important. A Touch of Dead. Former lover of Claude, he hated Claudette for telling Claude to end the relationship with ddust. She lives on a cliff overlooking the Brazos River. And the stories don’t really hold up well on their own.

Then there are a couple that are simply just fun shorts. And only a mouthful each. I blame that horrible mixed metaphor on the fact that I’m midway through book 6, and it’s starting to affect my brain.
