Reread in April I read it in a single day, because it was so thrilling and totally not like the usual books one has to read for school. Towards the end of the play, Durrenmatt engages with this ethical idea and more in a way that is stunning both in brevity and wit, and in the richness of the ideas’ direct societal applications. We had to read this book in school, and it’s actually one of the few books that I really, really, really liked.
The question examined is what is the proper course for a scientist who has learned something that is highly dangerous for life on this planet. Those tired of North Korea and would like to read something funny on the duerrenmart menace. His plays often have bizarre settings.

In fact, however, the three physicists are all sane. Science seemed to have outstripped friedricj ability to utilize it for the betterment of humanity.

At first the execution reminded me of Tom Stoppard — high praise round my way, because I think Stoppard’s one of the greatest writers alive. Anyway, although I’m glad to have read something that gave me the opportunity for so much analysis, you can probably tell that I didn’t like it very much; it’s baldly preachy, and though intended to be humorous, the laughter is the kind that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
