The programme is deliberately intensive, typically consisting of working a full 5 days per week of lectures and practical work, including labs or tutorial exercises designed to teach practical skills in addition to learning theory.
The test has four sections reading, listening, speaking, and writingeach with a score range offor a total score range of Check the scholarships to see whether you are eligible to apply. Firstly is a group project designed to simulate working in an exploration section of a major oil company, including both fieldwork to the basin in question and also working on historical data to identify likely prospects for further exploration work.
It was awarded by the Royal Anniversary Trustwhich works to promote world class excellence in UK universities and colleges. Please provide a valid contact telephone number in your online application. This is an online programme.
These five scores are averaged to give you an overall result for the exam. How to apply You can apply for this course online. The Petroleum Geoscience programme is jointly offered by Heriot-Watt University and Edinburgh University, with external staff from Durham University, and combines the expertise available at each of these three institutions to heriof a unique programme in subsurface geoscience and exploration.

Project work, both as groups and individually, forms part of the assessment for the programme. Parts of the courses listed above require higher or university level mathematics backgrounds. The aim of the fieldtrip is to introduce the students to the geology of the Jurassic Coast area, and to provide them with examples of source rocks, seal rocks, reservoir rocks, and structural features that may form traps within the Wessex Basin.
This week-long fieldtrip to the Wessex Basin is part of the Team Exploration Project at the beginning of summer.

It is particularly exciting that what started out as mathematical modelling to map the flow of oil and gas through rock has transferred across to medical science where the same principles apply to the movement of blood in biological systems. After the taught components are completed there are two research projects. Applied Petroleum Geoscience, M.
Additional fees information All course costs are covered by the tuition fee. This includes full electronic versions of the course notes, full access to additional material available via our virtual learning environment, field trips and any day trips arranged as part of the course. Detailed Programme Facts Starting in Other fieldtrips and visits to local core viewing facilities hosted in the neighbouring British Geological Survey facilities will be arranged on a more ad hoc basis.
The year-long program mainly focuses on petroleum geoscience, but the programme is linked closely with other MSc programs and research groups in petroleum engineering and groscience geology at the host institute, the Institute of Petroleum Engineering, and is also applicable to non-petroleum subsurface geoscience subjects, such as CO 2 storage and groundwater flow.
Much of the Institute’s research focuses on experiments and computer simulation geoscidnce fluid flow in geiscience media, such as rock and subsea surfaces. You will receive a separate score for each of the four skills reading, writing, listening and speaking gesocience for Use of English.
Students on the Petroleum Geoscience MSc will benefit from the excellent links with industry and research activities hriot the staff at the Institute of Petroleum Engineering, as well as the world-class research facilities available at Edinburgh University and the research expertise of Durham University.
Past students on the Petroleum Geoscience programme have gone into further research PhD programs here and overseasas well as into geoscience departments of both major Oil and Gas companies and also industry petrloeum companies, contractors and small local companies.
Programme content The Applied Petroleum Geoscience degree provides participants with a thorough training in aspects of subsurface geology, geophysics and geo-engineering, relating to the exploration, appraisal and development of subsurface resources.
This fieldtrip is assessed as part of the Petroleum Basins course. We now offer a range of postgraduate opportunities, all uniquely tailored to the oil and gas industry, in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment which provides a stimulating place for learning and research.
Students can search online for independent or external scholarships that can help fund their studies. Our Students Students on the Applied Petroleum Geoscience programme come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including directly from undergraduate degrees and also from years datt decades of experience in the Oil and Gas industry. We offer a range of English language courses heriit help you meet the English language requirement prior to starting your masters course: The Applied Petroleum Geoscience degree provides participants with a thorough training in aspects of subsurface geology, geophysics and geo-engineering, relating to the exploration, appraisal and development of subsurface resources.
The programme is also applicable to non-petroleum subsurface geoscience subjects, such as CO2 storage and groundwater flow. Industry links Students on the Petroleum Geoscience MSc will benefit from the excellent links with industry and research activities by the staff at the Institute of Petroleum Engineering, as well as the world-class research facilities available at Edinburgh University and the research expertise of Durham University.
There are 2 set fieldtrips in the geoscoence, although other day trips may take place as part of the courses detailed above. C1 Advanced is a Cambridge English Qualification. The prize recognises how the Institute’s research and innovation activity spans exploration to production technology, and also harnesses its findings to enhance interdisciplinary work being carried out, including in medical research. The students visit local outcrops around Edinburgh city, and also several excellently exposed outcrops on the north coast of the Firth of Forth, discussing basin scale, type, geiscience potential, source rocks and reservoir rocks, with illustrations of reservoir heterogeneity, reservoir scale, reservoir engineering issues and modelling challenges.
This 2 day fieldtrip takes place within the first few weeks Semester 1, and is set up as an introduction to the course, the students, staff and the local area.
