Worldviews in Movies, and Act 3: All in all, this was an excellent read brina I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in films and wants a deeper understanding of an image and emotion driven generation. But perhaps the greatest compliment I can give Godawa is that this book made me want to watch more movies and to help others do the same. It is something to chew on even if not every Christian will find themselves in agreement with the author. What I like alot about this book is that many movies are brought up as examples of the worldviews subtle message in films.

Thanks for a thorough look at this book, Cris. Godawa does an excellent job laying out the two ditches that exist: Hollywood Worldviews helps you enter a dialogue with Hollywood that leads to a happier ending, one that keeps you aware of your culture and awake to your faith.

The scope of this book is much wider than a reference for movie reviews. What is the story? Do you think movies are “harmless” and the producer, screenwriter, etc.

Saturday, September 01, If you are a seller for this product, would you like to suggest updates through seller support? Really good book on how to evaluate movies from a Christian worldview. Just what, exactly, would an “accurate” portrayal look like? Everything we do in life effects us whether we know it or not and movies are no exception.

I appreciate Godawa’s willingness to approach controversial topics and speak his mind. He also spends a great deal of time dealing with the predominant worldviews that Hollywood portrays in contemporary movies existentialism; postmodernism; monism; fate; neo-paganism; neo-Darwinism; etc. All in all, these example should stir a Christian to be careful with discerning and watching movies with Godly wisdom–and while watching out for swearing, needless violence and sexual sins are important, we as believers must also watch out for the IDEAS that film impart to us.

I recommend this book to every Christian. Even for those of you who don’t spend much time talking or thinking about worldviews, this book has much to benefit from. He keeps things simple and clear, and explains briefly how these philosophies are critiqued by the story of redemption in Christ found in Scripture In Part 3, Godawa interacts with how Christianity is portrayed in movies.

Godawa helps us determine which movies are lots of treasure hidden in a little dirt, and which movies are just dirt.

This is a time-sensitive book, or my edition that was written inso there are many movies a modern reader could have added. This book added to that by incorporating the not so brkan about aspect of worldviews; in this particular writing it’s about worldviews as shared through movies.

This is a good book for anyone with questions about Christianity and Hollywood, but I also think it is a meaningful contribution to the question of Christianity and pop culture in general. Overall, a decent starting point, I suppose — especially the earlier chapters on various philosophies. To be fair, Godawa does acknowledge both of my critiques as accurate to some extent He begins with a discussion about the true nature of narrative and story, how these stories are constructed and how mythologies are created, and how most stories and movies at their core are concerned with redemption.
